Windows 10 Empty Windows 10

Post by ☠ ~ Aɳɳ ~ ☠ on Sun 09 Aug 2015, 09:59

Hi everyone,

Did any of you upgrade to windows 10, and what are your experiences?
I have, as a matter of fact, and so far, so good. Until I decided to see if TS3 would run. Which it doesn't. So, I'm going to try a few things, and keep you posted.

Edit: So far I can't get it to work. Run as admin, compatibility mode, even reinstalling the base game does nothing. It's click, wait, and nothing. Hmm.

That sounds weird!

I have Windows 10 for several months (installed from scratch, I did NOT update from any other version), and it always ran The Sims 3 Complete Collection perfectly! I also ran Sims 4 a couple of times without major issues (besides not having the DLC available when running the game for the second time).

I am happy with Windows 10, maybe you need a clean install of it to make it work properly? How up to date are your video drivers (I got some issues with Firefox x Windows 10 where I still get a black firefox window on my main screen, forcing me to close and open the browser again when I want to move it from another screen)?

I wish we can figure out a solution for your problem (I also ran Create a World without issues).

I haven't tried a clean install yet, but maybe I'll have to.

Hi, Lady Eldi! Smile

I also upgraded to Windows 10 some time ago, but I didn't do a clean install. I haven't tried The Sims 3, especially because before upgrading I uninstalled most of the games from my computer, to speed the process a little bit. I'll try installing TS3 and let you know how it goes.

Are you by any chance running the games in a drive different from C:? Do you get the launcher at least?

Hi Seoy,

The launcher starts up fine. But then, when I click the play button, that small circle appears at the mouse pointer, goes round and round for 5 seconds and, nothing. The same thing happens when I start the game with TS3W.exe It doesn't show up in task manager either.
I wonder what CAW does though, maybe I should try that.

I installed everything in the default location.

Hi there,

Might be a stupid question for you... but are you sure you're using the latest game version with the latest crack?
An outdated crack shows the same symptoms, hence I ask.

What he said. and you could also try "run as administrator" instead of using the launcher or a regular run for the game bin itself...

Another thing you can do, if you are "desperate" is trying to put the "Into the Future" disk in your DVD emulator program (not sure if windows default emulator that opens iso files will work for this), and run the game without crack, but then, if you were having "crack" problems, the game should present you an error message (disk missing), or something like that...

One thing you can also try is just reinstalling "Into the Future" and that huge update pack that "updates everything", then applying the fix again, maybe it works?

I wish you all the best, please let us know what happened next.

So far, no luck.
To play it safe, I uninstalled the entire game, then I made sure I have all the latest drivers for my hardware (updated my graphics driver) and reinstalled (after restarting of course) from the "The Sims 3 complete collection", from which I also used the patch and the crack. Ran it as administrator and tried several compatibility modes. Same results Sad I'm not sure what to try next.

Ouch! That hurts Sad

Sorry to hear you keep getting the same problem, it is weird that the game ran perfectly fine here (and I was using the very same version, Complete Collection, that I even show in my video how to install, and I am actually installing the game on Windows 10 there, as far I remember).

Did you do the DEP thingy (more likely)? How is your anti virus (or Windows defender) behaving? Maybe your anti virus could be hitting the game (or part of it) and forcing it to close (it should have notified you, though, but we never know for sure).

Maybe the game uses some library that became broken once you upgraded your system to Windows 10. Could you create a virtual machine (on VMWare or another software of your liking), install a clean copy of Windows 10, then the game, then run it to see if you can repeat the problem? Maybe you will have to perform a clean install of Windows 10 for your system to work properly (I am avoiding upgrading a couple of friends's computers because I worry they won't be able to use everything as they do now, and I can not go there and sit with them to reinstall the software from scratch (once system and network is ok, I can always use TeamViewer to reach them, but before that, it is really tiring to guide them through the phone/viber/etc)...

But, since you have a pretty great knowledge around computers, I have a feeling that you will end up doing a full format on your PC someday soon Sad

I am really trying to think of something else, but I just can't think of anything besides DEP and anti virus or a broken library. You could try to reinstall Visual C++ runtime libraries, as the old windows framework too. Maybe that could fix the things without the need for a full system reinstall?

Ah, did you check your device manager for any "broken" device? If you can't find a driver to a "broken" device and it is not necessary (it is probably not working anyway, if it is "broken"), you can disable and fix your system. Also, check your video settings to see if your system is using the NVidia/Radeon card or something else inside your processor (I think only Intel processors have it, but not sure about AMD, which I think is your case, right?).

Sorry for the long post, I wish you can get any good idea from here that works...

Or... Make yourself a huge bottle of tea and start backing up your files for a full nuke later Smile

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  Mystery solved

I had the feeling that I was overlooking something, and I was. My APU! I have dual graphics, an APU and GPU that work together, but once I disabled dual graphics, the game started.
